Notre Dame women’s basketball forward Liatu King left Wednesday’s game against James Madison in the fourth quarter because of an apparent head injury. King got whacked on the head fighting for am offensive rebound and went to the court in rather rough fashion. She subbed out and did not return to the floor.

The incident occurred with just under nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. King laid on the floor in what appeared to be a discomforting daze for a few moments before slowly sitting up and staying on the court for a little while longer. She finally gingerly walked to the bench with the assistance of a couple team trainers.

With 6:02 left in the fourth quarter, King went to the Irish locker room and did not come back out. Notre Dame won, 92-46, and King had 11 points and 3 rebounds in 19 minutes, but the Irish were once again down to just seven healthy players for pretty much an entire quarter. That includes former walk-on Sarah Cernugel who only logged 3 minutes in the entire game.

Should King not be able to play this weekend against Lafayette, she’d be the sixth scholarship player to miss a game for the Irish in just the fourth game of the season. The others on that list are Sonia Citron, Liza Karlen, Maddy Westbeld, KK Bransford and Kylee Watson. Of those five, only Citron has played in any of the first three games.

Irish head coach Niele Ivey did not have an update on the status of King in her postgame press conference. King is averaging 17.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game through three appearances at Notre Dame.
