Notre Dame women's basketball G Abby Prohaska enters transfer portal
After a turbulent four-year career at Notre Dame, women’s basketball guard Abby Prohaska will finish her eligibility elsewhere. The senior announced her decision via Twitter on Wednesday.
“There are no words in the world that could sum up the experience of my four years here at Notre Dame,” Prohaska wrote. “You embraced me from the moment I stepped foot on this campus. I am beyond thankful for the love and support you have given me throughout my tenure here.
“I have given everything I have to this program and hope to have left it a little bit better than I found it. Thank you to Coach McGraw and Coach Ivey for granting me the opportunity to continue to chase my dream.
“With that being said, I am entering my name in the transfer portal for the remaining years of my eligibility. I am looking forward to a fresh state but will never forget the impact this university has had on my life. Number 12 signing off.”
She included a shamrock and a green heart emoji at the end of her statement.

Prohaska averaged 3.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists this season, shooting 50.9 percent along the way. Over her career, she posted 2.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assistants per contest. Her peak, at least in terms of playing time and points per game, came during the 2020-21 season. Prohaska averaged more than 21 minutes and four points per game.

She was the only player on the roster last season who appeared in Notre Dame’s 2019 NCAA Tournament run.
Prohaska missed her sophomore season after being diagnosed with a bilateral pulmonary embolism, and she missed a chunk of the 2021-22 campaign with a broken orbital bone. She has at least two years of eligibility left, including the COVID-19 wavier year.
The senior has a larger-than-life personality and provided value so much more value to the team than her stat line suggests. Just ask star freshman Olivia Miles.
“She’s meant so much to our team as a leader,” Miles said earlier this month. “Her experience is valuable beyond words. I can’t describe it.”
Head coach Niele Ivey described Prohaska as “the heart and soul and glue of our defense.”
That won’t be easy to replace.
