Where Notre Dame women’s basketball ranks in Week 11 AP Top 25
Notre Dame slipped down the rankings in the Associated Press poll for the third consecutive week, even after winning both of its ACC games since the prior poll was released. Ahead of Week 11 games, the Fighting Irish (13-3, 3-2 ACC) are ranked No. 19 in the AP Top 25.
Head coach Niele Ivey’s team beat Boston College 98-48 at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend last Thursday. The Irish stayed at home and defeated Miami 70-59 yesterday. Now Notre Dame is on the road for its next two games against Virginia on Jan. 18 and Wake Forest on Jan. 21.
The Irish beat the Hurricanes in spite of an off shooting night from senior forward Maddy Westbeld. She was 2 of 14 from the field after missing her first nine attempts. She finished with 5 points after notching 15 points and 15 rebounds in the previous game against the Eagles.
Junior guard Sonia Citron had a much more efficient day in her third game back from a knee injury that made her miss nine appearances. She shot 4 of 9, including 3 of 5 from three-point range, and 4 of 4 from the free throw line chip in 15 points.

Freshman guard Hannah Hidalgo led the way, as she normally does, with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals. She was instrumental in Notre Dame turning Miami 26 times. The Irish scored 31 of their 70 points off Hurricane giveaways.
Notre Dame is a much better team with Westbeld and Citron on the floor together, which the Irish hadn’t enjoyed since mid-November, but with junior point guard Olivia Miles still on the shelf Ivey’s squad is going to have to win games with stifling team defense instead of outscoring them or bullying them in the post; starting center Kylee Watson scored 0 points and only had 5 rebounds in 25 minutes of floor time vs. Miami.
