She’s 13 games into her college career, and Notre Dame freshman point guard Hannah Hidalgo is already one of the best players in the country. The Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List confirmed that on Wednesday evening.
Hidalgo’s name appeared on it, and nobody should be surprised.
The first-year superstar leads Notre Dame and ranks third nationally with 23.9 points per game. She also leads the Fighting Irish with 5.9 assists and 5.7 steals per game. She’s second on the roster in rebounding with 6.6 boards per game.
Hidalgo finds ways to affect every matchup on both ends of the floor. She asserts herself defensively and is often unstoppable offensively. Hidalgo has already won seven ACC Rookie of the Week awards, a new Notre Dame record.

“She’s such an amazing talent,” Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey said. “She’s beyond her years, and I think that’s why she broke the record. She’s not playing like a freshman. She’s playing like an upperclassman. She’s in the conversation for top 10 in the country, and we’re talking about the Caitlin Clarks and Angel Reeses of the world.
“The fact that she’s in that conversation shows you the type of talent that she has. She’s been consistent. She’s been solid. And she’s done everything that I’ve asked her to do and more, so I’m really proud of her.”
