Notre Dame has one of the best players in the country in sophomore point guard Olivia Miles. An announcement from The Los Angeles Athletic Club Wednesday was further proof of that.

Miles was named to the midseason Wooden Award watch list. The Wooden Award is doled out annually to the best player in college basketball. A panel of national college basketball experts came up with a pool of 25 players to comprise the list.

Miles leads No. 4 Notre Dame in points (15.2), rebounds (8.0), assists (7.5) and steals. She’s the only player in the country averaging at least 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists per game. Her assists per game figure ranks third nationally.

Miles is already on a historic run at this stage in her career. She owns the record for most triple-doubles (3) in program history, passing Skylar Diggins-Smith and Jackie Young with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists vs. Merrimack College on Dec. 10. She’s a threat to post a triple-double every time she takes the floor. She might be the player in the country, men or women, that is most true of. Her ability to score at will and create opportunities for teammates, all while having a nose for the ball in the rebounding department, is truly unique.

Miles is one of five players from the ACC to receive a midseason nomination. She joined North Carolina guard Deja Kelly, Louisville guard Hailey Van Lith, Florida State guard Ta’Niya Latson and Virginia Tech forward Elizabeth Kitley. Notre Dame already faced Virginia Tech and Kitley. The Irish are up against Kelly and the Tar Heels this Sunday. Notre Dame faces Florida State on Jan. 26 and Louisville on Feb. 16 and Feb. 26.
