Notre Dame women’s basketball names player development program director
Notre Dame women’s basketball now has a player development program director. The Fighting Irish officially appointed Carlos Knox to newly-created role Monday.
Knox spent the better part of a decade with the Indiana Fever as an interim head coach, assistant coach and player development coach. The Fever qualified for the playoffs in eight straight seasons and won the WNBA championship in 2012 while Knox was on the staff there. They fell on hard times the last few seasons, though, and went 3-24 during Knox’s interim stint in 2022.
Knox has experience working with some of the game’s great players, including former Tennessee great and 10-time WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings and former Purdue standout and five-time WNBA All-Star Katie Douglas. Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey said in a statement she is very exited to add Knox to her staff.
“He has been instrumental in the development of some of the best players in both the WNBA and NBA, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team,” Ivey said in her statement. “My vision for our program is to continue developing NEXT LEVEL pros, and I believe Carlos will help continue and elevate that mission!”

Knox has history on the men’s side, too, as an assistant at San Diego State (2010-11), North Texas (2017-20) and Cincinnati (2020-21). Knox went to Indiana University — Purdue University Indianapolis from 1994-98. He was a two-time Division II scoring champion there and was named the DII Player of the Year in 1998. He had his jersey raised to the rafters there in 2004.
Ivey brings back her entire staff from last year in addition to Knox’s arrival. She’s aided by associate head coach Carol Owens, assistants Michaela Mabrey and Charel Allen, director of operations Angie Potthoff and program manager Charla Lewis.
Notre Dame went to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season in March. The Irish have 11 scholarship players on their 2023-24 roster. Here’s a complete look at the list.
