The Notre Dame women’s basketball team had its Thanksgiving feast on Wednesday. Head coach Niele Ivey hosted players and coaches at her home to enjoy a meal cooked by a professional chef, she said Tuesday. Thursday was a recovery day of sorts. The team needed some time to digest because today, it’s time for basketball.

Matchup notables

• The all-time series between Notre Dame and Ball State is tied 2-2, but the Fighting Irish have won the last two including a 95-60 victory in South Bend last November.

• Three Notre Dame players set career-highs in points in the Irish’s 113-35 win over Chicago State on Tuesday. Senior center Nat Marshall had 20, sophomore guard/forward Cassandre Prosper had 19 and freshman guard Emma Risch had 16.

• Freshman guard Hannah Hidalgo continues to dominate in her introduction to women’s college basketball. With 23 points against Chicago State, Hidalgo became the fifth Notre Dame player to ever score 20-plus points in five straight games joining Arike Ogunbowale (four times), Charel Allen, Jewell Loyd and Alicia Ray.

• Hidalgo leads Notre Dame in scoring with 25.0 points per game. She also is averaging a staggering 6.0 steals in addition to 5.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. She can truly do it all, and she’s only a handful of games into her college career.

• Ball State has four players averaging at least 10.0 points per game in the Cardinals’ 5-0 start. The Cards are led by guard Madelyn Bischoff‘s 14.6 points per game.

• Ball State and Notre Dame have a common opponent. Ball State beat the same Chicago State team that the Irish trounced by 76 points, the second-largest margin of victory in program history, by a score of 85-56 on Nov. 14. The Cardinals are coming off a narrow 67-63 win over IUPUI on Wednesday.
