It’s officially the stretch run of the 2022-23 college basketball season. Notre Dame only has two regular-season games remaining until the ACC Tournament, and the Fighting Irish are right in the thick of a title run.

What a familiar feeling.

After finishing in solo first or tied for the top spot in the ACC standings for seven straight seasons from 2012-19, the Irish have not placed better than a tie for third in the last three seasons. Winning the final two games of the regular season would guarantee Notre Dame a finish of at least a tie for first. That’s currently where head coach Niele Ivey’s team sits in the standings. The other team at the top is Duke, who beat the Irish earlier this month.

Here’s a look at the conference standings going into the final week of February.

Week 16 ACC standings

T1. Duke (23-4, 13-3 ACC)

T1. Notre Dame (22-4, 13-3)

Notre Dame hosts Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday then finishes the regular season at Louisville at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26. That game will be televised on ESPN’s main network. The Irish just beat the Cardinals 78-76 to notch their first win in the rivalry since 2019. A consecutive victory over the Cards might be necessary for the Irish to keep pace with Duke.

The Blue Devils have two home games left, one against North Carolina State at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday and another versus North Carolina at 12 p.m. on Feb. 26. Duke won at NC State 72-58 on Dec. 29, but the Tar Heels beat the Blue Devils 61-56 in a rivalry game in Chapel Hill on Jan. 19.

A solo regular-season conference crown for Notre Dame is not completely out of view. Winning out plus one of the other points of the Research Triangle taking down the Devils would give Ivey her first outright conference championship as a head coach. The Irish have been at the top of the standings and inside the top 10 of the Associated Press poll for just about the entirety of the season, so it would be well earned.
