Notre Dame men’s basketball introduces a new head coach today for the first time in over two decades. Micah Shrewsberry‘s introductory press conference takes place on campus at 11 a.m.

In advance of that, Fighting Irish women’s basketball coach Niele Ivey released a statement welcoming the former Indiana University-South Bend and Indianapolis native back to his home state.

“I am super excited to welcome Micah to our ND basketball family! Micah is an incredibly talented coach and an exemplary role model and family man. He embodies the values that make Notre Dame special and unique! I have deep trust for him as he’s been a great mentor for my son. The impact on our campus will be immediate and immense! I’m looking forward to working alongside him and his staff.”

Ivey has the Irish women’s program pointed in a positive direction coming off back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances. Shrewsberry is tasked with bringing success back to a men’s program that has qualified for the NCAA Tournament just once since 2018.

Quote of the day

“It’s time for him to knock on the door. The way you knock on the door is play the system, play with poise and execute. That’s it. He will always bring the energy. He will always bring the fight. He will always bring the finish. That’s not the issue. The issue is prepare, eliminate MEs, play with poise and execute within the realm of the defense. If he does that, he’s going to do great things for us.”
