It is not all departure news for the Notre Dame football program this week on the transfer portal front. On Thursday, On3’s Jesse Simonton named a Fighting Irish addition as one of the top portal players in 2023.

Simonton tapped defensive lineman Javontae Jean-Baptiste as the No. 10 most impactful transfer addition this season. It was the 6-foot-4½, 260-pounder’s debut on the list.

In his only season with the Irish, Jean-Baptiste led the team with 9.5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. He was fourth with 47 tackles, 20 of which were solo.

Simonton selected Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington as the No. 1 player on the list. The complete list can be found here.

Jean-Baptiste transferred to Notre Dame after five seasons at Ohio State. In his five years with the Buckeyes, he had 51 tackles (25 solo), 10 tackles for loss and 8 sacks.

Jean-Baptiste was one of eight players Notre Dame picked up from the transfer portal. The Irish also added quarterback Sam Hartman, running back Devyn Ford, defensive backs Thomas Harper and Antonio Carter, kicker Spencer Shrader, and punter Ben Krimm from the portal. They gave an opportunity to former Virginia Tech wide receiver Kaleb Smith, who retired in the spring.
