Defensive line has been a strong suit of Notre Dame’s in recent years, and new defensive line coach Al Washington hopes to continue what his predecessor, Mike Elston, started.

St. Patrick’s Day is a built-in holiday for Notre Dame to utilize on the recruiting trail, and during the “Pot of Gold” day, the staff offered dozens of new prospects. Here’s a look at the eight new defensive tackle offers doled out on Thursday.

PROMOTION: Sign up for just $1 for first year at Blue & Gold

West Bloomfield (Mich.) High DT Brandon Davis-Swain

Height/weight: 6-3, 240
On3 Consensus Ranking: N/A
Other notable offers: Kentucky, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee

Davis-Swain is listed as a defensive lineman, but he’s so athletic he can play all over the field, including tight end. The defenseman visited Notre Dame and liked the campus, and he’s bonded with Washington already. While Michigan is close by and very much in the mix, Davis-Swain wants to look around the country, including taking a trip down to Ole Miss. A fun note: Davis-Swain gave a special shoutout to former Irish defensive lineman Khalid Kareem when he made the Super Bowl with the Cincinnati Bengals in February 2022.

Princeton (N.J.) Hun School DT Owen Wafle

Height/weight: 6-3, 250
On3 Consensus Ranking: N/A
Other notable offers: Boston College, Michigan State, Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia

Wafle boasts a four-star ranking from Rivals but remains unranked with On3, for now. The New Jersey native is high on his current in-state option, Rutgers. He visited in March and attended a Penn State-Rutgers game, touting how large and loud the crowd was for the home finale. The Scarlet Knights gave him his first Power Five offer. Wafle has been to South Bend before — he was on campus for the Nov. 20 Georgia Tech win.

Leeds (Ala.) High DT Kavion Henderson

Height/weight: 6-3, 233
On3 Consensus Ranking: N/A
Other notable offers: Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC

On3 lists Henderson as an EDGE rusher, but the Irish are interested in him as an interior defensive line. He’s been all over the SEC already, and he really likes Ole Miss. Georgia leads for the Alabama native according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (28.9 percent), but Alabama and Ole Miss follow closely behind at 26.3 percent each. Henderson is a three-sport athlete, also big into basketball and track.

Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County DT Omar White

Height/weight: 6-3, 305
On3 Consensus Ranking: N/A
Other notable offers: Arkansas, Auburn, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M

White does not have an On3 ranking yet, but he will surely have one soon. Last summer, the prospect said visits to Texas A&M and Georgia stuck out to him, but that was obviously a take with just one year of high school football under his belt. He was actually in Doak Campbell Stadium visiting Florida State in September when Notre Dame topped the Seminoles 41-38 in overtime.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei DT Aydin Breland

Height/weight: 6-5, 315
On3 Consensus Ranking: N/A
Other notable offers: Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, USC

Alabama and Oregon lead in the race for the massive defensive lineman, as he has already visited both schools. Breland is currently unranked, but he plays for one of the nation’s premier programs in Mater Dei, which has produced numerous Irish football players, including 1964 Heisman Trophy winner John Huarte. There will be no shortage of eyes on him in the next couple of years, so the offer list will only grow.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy DT David Stone

Height/weight: 6-4, 240
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 15 NATL, No. 2 DL, No. 4 player from Florida
Other notable offers: Iowa State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tennessee

While Stone is playing high school football in Florida, he is originally from Oklahoma City. His early On3 RPM predictions reflect that, as Oklahoma is the heavy favorite to land him right now (97.8 percent). Unsurprisingly given his strength and size, he is also an elite shot put and discus star.

Norcross (Ga.) Meadowcreek DT Champ Thompson

Height/weight: 6-3, 250
On3 Consensus Ranking: N/A
Other notable offers: Arkansas, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon

A couple of schools from which Thompson doesn’t yet hold offers are expected to be big in his recruitment: Clemson and Georgia. He visited Clemson on Wednesday. Thompson’s offer list is short, but it is high quality. He holds a total of seven Power Five offers now that Notre Dame is on the table.
