Notre Dame football has found its offensive coordinator for the 2024 season and beyond. On Friday, news broke that Fighting Irish coach Marcus Freeman tapped Mike Denbrock as the program’s next offensive coordinator.

Denbrock replaces former Irish offensive coordinator Gerad Parker, who filled the head coaching vacancy at Troy University on Monday.

The 59-year-old Denbrock, a native of Homer, Mich., was in Baton Rouge, La., for the last two seasons. In 2023, he guided LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels to a Heisman Trophy campaign. The Tigers finished the regular season as the top team in college football in total offense (547.8 yards per game), team passing efficiency (196.51) and scoring offense (46.4 points per game).

The 2024 college football campaign will mark Denbrock’s third stint and 11th season in South Bend. He most recently served as Notre Dame’s associate head coach and wide receivers coach during the 2015-16 seasons. From 2012-14, he also coached receivers. He coordinated the Irish offense during the 2014 season.

Denbrock initially coached the Irish offensive tackles in tight ends during the 2002-04 campaigns. Following stints at Washington and Indiana State, he returned to South Bend in 2010 to serve as tight ends coach during that season and the next. He transitioned to his position coaching receivers in 2012.

After the 2016 season, Denbrock joined Cincinnati as its offensive coordinator and held the position until 2021. Freeman coached with Denbrock in Cincy from 2017-20. Denbrock led the Bearcats to a College Football Playoff berth in 2021 before reuniting with Brian Kelly in Baton Rouge in 2022.

Now that Denbrock is headed back to South Bend, here is how social media reacted to the news.
