How social media reacted to EDGE Christopher Burgess' Notre Dame football commitment
Christopher Burgess made Notre Dame football fans sweat … only to announce a verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish before the All-American Bowl kicked off Saturday. The 2025 four-star EDGE chose Notre Dame over Alabama, LSU, Michigan and Ohio State.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Burgess is the No. 130 overall player, No. 9 EDGE and No. 5 prospect in Illinois in 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.
In On3’s own rankings, Chicago Simeon’s Burgess is the No. 129 overall prospect, No. 8 player at his position and No. 3 recruit in the state.
Burgess reported six unofficial visits to Notre Dame, more than any other program. He made the trip to South Bend for every major Irish recruiting event over the last nine months: the Blue-Gold Game (April 22), Irish Invasion camp (June 4), Grill & Chill cookout (July 30) and Ohio State game (Sept. 23).
Burgess’ first Notre Dame visit was on Oct. 15, 2022, for the Stanford game. He also was on campus for spring practice on March 25.
The Irish offered Burgess during its Pot of Gold Day recruiting event on March 17. About 65 recruits in the 2025 class reported new Notre Dame offers during the St. Patrick’s Day-themed recruiting event. In total, 22 Power Five programs offered Burgess before his commitment.

Burgess is the 12th prospect to commit to Notre Dame in the 2025 cycle. He joins two other Chicago area recruits to pledge to the Irish, both of whom prep in Elmhurst, Ill., a suburb of the city: York Community defensive lineman Joseph Reiff and IC Catholic Prep linebacker Dominik Hulak.
