NEW ORLEANS — Roughly 36 hours after a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street took the lives of 15 people, Notre Dame and Georgia are kicking off the Sugar Bowl in the nearby Superdome. Blue & Gold is at the game bringing you live updates, including highlights and commentary.

Follow along below for everything you need to know about No. 7 seed Notre Dame (12-1) vs. No. 2 seed Georgia (11-2). Kickoff is just after 3 p.m. ET on ABC/ESPN.

Final: Notre Dame 23, Georgia 10

After the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs with just over 9 minutes left, the Irish possessed the ball through the two-minute warning and left no time left for Georgia to complete a comeback.

The Irish have won a major bowl game for the first time since the 1993 season, and they’re in the final four of the College Football Playoff for the third time since 2018.

Georgia turnover on downs

The Bulldogs got inside the Notre Dame 10, much thanks to a pass inference penalty on fourth down, but didn’t get any further. Georgia turned the ball over on an incomplete pass on 4th and 5. The Irish took over with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.

SCORE: Notre Dame 23, Georgia 10

Mitch Jeter is 3 for 3 on the day after making a 47-yarder with 13:47 left. Notre Dame converted on fourth and short to keep the hope for a touchdown alive, but Jordan Faison was called for an illegal shift. On 4th and 7, the Irish elected to put points on the board. Jeter came through.

Jeremiyah Love limps off field

01/02/2025 05:46:38 PM

Just like he did in the regular season finale against USC, Notre Dame sophomore running back Jeremiyah Love tweaked his right knee and limped off the field straight to the Fighting Irish injury tent. Love has 6 carries for 19 yards today.

A pair of turnovers on downs

Notre Dame went for it on 4th and 1 from midfield, and Riley Leonard was stopped short of the line to gain. Then Georgia went for it on 4th and short just inside Irish territory, and a completed pass came up short of the sticks.

SCORE: Notre Dame 20, Georgia 10

01/02/2025 05:28:12 PM

This thing is far from over. Gunner Stockton is dicing up the vaunted Irish passing defense. He’s up to 209 passing yards and a touchdown now, the score coming on a strike to wide-open Cash Jones out of the backfield. It’s 20-10 with plenty of time left. The game is very much back on.

Trading punts

01/02/2025 05:20:20 PM

It’s been a clunky game at times. Notre Dame is up 20-3, for instance, despite having only 137 total yards. The Irish have capitalized on their chances in ways Bulldogs have not. Otherwise, punts have predominantly been the theme of the afternoon. There have now been 8 of them, 4 per side.

SCORE: Notre Dame 20, Georgia 3

01/02/2025 05:08:27 PM

Jayden Harrison took the opening kickoff of the second half back for a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown. All of a sudden, the Fighting Irish are boat racing the Bulldogs. It’s 20-3.

10 points, 12 seconds for Notre Dame

01/02/2025 04:44:20 PM

Notre Dame took its first lead of the game, 6-3, on a 48-yard field goal with 39 seconds left in the first half. Twelve seconds laster, after RJ Oben forced as fumble and Junior Tuihalamaka recovered it, Riley Leonard found Beaux Collins in the end zone for the game’s first touchdown. It’s 13-3 Notre Dame at halftime.

Punt parade

Notre Dame and Georgia have begun to trade punts, each team coming up with big third-down stops on defense. The teams are a combined 2 of 11 on third down. Notre Dame has the ball facing 3rd and 1 at its own 47 coming out of the two-minute warning. The game is still tied, 3-3.

SCORE: Notre Dame 3, Georgia 3

01/02/2025 04:08:15 PM

Mitch Jeter’s 44-yard kick from the right hash sailed through the uprights, and the game is tied at three points apiece with 8:20 left in the second quarter.

SCORE: Georgia 3, Notre Dame 0

01/02/2025 03:57:42 PM

The Bulldogs are on the field first following a 41-yard field goal. A 66-yard pass from Gunner Stockton to Arian Smith put UGA in range, but a sideline infraction penalty took 15 yards away from that gain. The Bulldogs didn’t move the ball much after that and settled for the kick.

End of the first: No score

01/02/2025 03:46:39 PM

If you predicted a low-scoring, defensive slugfest you were on to something. It’s 0-0 at the end of the first quarter. Notre Dame has 3rd and 11 coming out of the break after a false start penalty.

Adon Shuler forces fumble, Notre Dame recovers

01/02/2025 03:41:22 PM

Georgia sustained a lengthy, time-consuming drive into the red zone. Then sophomore safety Adon Shuler delivered a brutal blow on a ball carrier, knocked the ball loose and fellow sophomore Jaiden Ausberry fell on it at the Notre Dame 10. Irish ball. No Georgia points. Massive play.

Illegal forward pass derails first Notre Dame drive

01/02/2025 03:26:28 PM

Riley Leonard’s first pass attempt of the game went off of one of his offensive linemen’s backside. Leonard caught it, rolled out and threw the ball again. That’s a 10-yard penalty for an illegal forward pass, and Notre Dame never recovered from getting behind the chains. Punt.

Notre Dame takes back-to-back pass interference penalties

01/02/2025 03:22:47 PM

The Irish hit the Georgia punter on back-to-back attempts, but both infractions were only running into the kicker. Not roughing. The Bulldogs had fourth and long, so it didn’t matter.

Notre Dame defense dominates first series

01/02/2025 03:20:51 PM

Georgia ran five plays and netted -13 yards on its first possession. Jaylen Sneed, Joshua Burnham and Xavier Watts all made nice tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage. Georgia only gained yards on a six-yard rush by quarterback Gunner Stockton and a pass interference penalty on Irish corner Christian Gray.
