On Monday, Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman provided an injury update on three players during his weekly news conference. Most notably, junior wide receiver Deion Colzie will be out for a few weeks following a knee scope.

Colzie did not play any offensive snaps against Ohio State on Saturday. He last played eight snaps against Central Michigan on Sept. 16. That nearly matched a season-low seven snaps against Navy on Aug. 26. The 6-4 ¼, 210-pounder has three receptions for 45 yards and one touchdown — all of which came in the Navy game — this season.

“So he’s gonna get his knee scoped sometime this week,” Freeman told reporters. “It is just preventing him from really performing at the level he believes he should be at. So, we’re going to scope his knee this week. He’ll be out for a couple of weeks.”

Freeman also noted that fellow junior wide receiver Jayden Thomas will be questionable against Duke on Saturday with a hamstring injury. The  6-1 ½, 221-pound Thomas had a 7-yard catch against Ohio State and played 30 of 65 offensive snaps.

Thomas has 13 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown on the season. His 30 snaps played against the Buckeyes matched a season-low from the Tennessee State game on Sept. 2.

Although it did not affect his participation, Freeman also mentioned that graduate student linebacker Marist Liufau did not practice as much last week. He dealt with a stinger in the neck area from the Central Michigan game. The 6-2,  239-pound Liufau played 61 of 69 snaps versus the Buckeyes but did not record any statistics.

“I think our entire defense played, for the most part, pretty well. Marist included,” Freeman said. “There’s always things to improve. Marist didn’t really get a chance to practice at full speed last week. He was nursing a little bit of a stinger neck strain.

“So, did that have an impact on how we played? I don’t know — you look for everything. But Marist played fine. Marist wasn’t why we had success or didn’t succeed. I thought he did a good job when he was in there.”

Liufau is seventh on the team with 17 tackles, 10 of which have been solo stops. He also had a tackle for loss and a forced fumble.

No. 11 Notre Dame’s (4-1) Week 5 matchup at No. 17 Duke (4-0) kicks off at 7:30 p.m. EDT. The Irish have won 29 consecutive ACC games.
