There’s no weekend like the one Notre Dame is getting itself into now. Conference championship week is the only one in which a team will play days on end until it loses. If the Fighting Irish are to win the ACC Tournament, they’re going to have to play each of the next three days and win a trio of games in a row. That makes the ultimate reward, well, all the more rewarding.

This is everything to know about the first of those three potential matchups for Notre Dame.

What to know about Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish had the ACC regular season title under control until they didn’t. They lost two of their final three regular season games and ended up the No. 2 seed behind NC State, one of the teams they lost to down the stretch. Notre Dame rebounded with a regular season finale victory over Louisville on Sunday, though. Niele Ivey’s team goes into the conference tournament determined to win it for the second season in a row.

What to know about Cal

The Bears defeated Virginia, 75-58, on Thursday to set up this evening’s matchup with Notre Dame. They’ve won six of their last seven games, but none of those have been against teams ranked in the AP Top 25. Cal is 2-3 against teams ranked in the Associated Press Poll at the time of tipoff with wins over NC State and Alabama and losses against North Carolina, Duke and Notre Dame.
