Newsstand: What Urban Meyer said about Notre Dame, Marcus Freeman after Irish beat Texas A&M
Former college football national champion coach Urban Meyer is buying into Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman. On Wednesday, Meyer sang the praises of Freeman and Company on the Triple Option Podcast after the Fighting Irish went down to College Station and beat Texas A&M, 23-13.
Early into the episode, Meyer talked about how Freeman let his emotions show at the team emerged from the tunnel before kickoff.
“That’s a different man right now than it was two, three years ago when he first took over the job,” Meyer said. “That was not fake. … I can’t say enough about Marcus Freeman. That’s a real team, very young team.”
Meyer also complimented the Irish for playing complementary football. The Irish had 158 passing yards and 198 rushing yards in the victory.
“When you write a book called Complementary Football, go watch that game,” Meyer said. “He could have made some mistakes. Marcus Freeman did not. “That coaching staff did an excellent job. Don’t devalue complementary football. That’s what won that game at A&M.”
