When EA Sports’ college football franchise makes its long-awaited return July 19, Notre Dame will be its seventh-strongest team.

EA Sports College Football 25 gave the Irish a 90 overall rating, which ranks seventh in the nation. Notre Dame slotted in behind Georgia (95 overall), Ohio State (93), Oregon (92), Alabama (92), Texas (92) and Clemson (90), respectively . Even though the Irish and Tigers have the overall rating, the latter is ranked just ahead of the former.

LSU (90 overall), Penn State (88) and Utah (88) round out the top 10.

Of the 12 teams on Notre Dame’s 2024 schedule, only three made the game’s top 25. Florida State just missed the top 10 at No. 12 (88 overall). Texas A&M fell two spots behind the Seminoles at No. 14 (88), while USC just cracked the top 20 at No. 19 (87).

EA Sports College Football 25 has been rolling out details this week, first announcing its toughest places to play. Crowd noise will affect game play, and Notre Dame Stadium ranked No. 21.

Then, the video game announced its offense and defense power rankings, with the Irish making the top 25 in both. Notre Dame’s defense is the sixth-best in the game at 90 overall, behind only Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon, Alabama and Clemson, respectively.

The Irish have the 17th-best offense, just ahead of the team it will face in Week 1, Texas A&M. Both schools’ offenses are rated 85 overall.

If the video game’s list winds up being the final College Football Playoff rankings, Notre Dame would have the No. 8 seed and host a first-round game. Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson and Utah would claim first-round byes, while the Irish would host LSU at Notre Dame Stadium in December.

That would be… something.
