Hi everyone! My name is Ashton Pollard, and I’m super excited to get started at BlueandGold.com as a staff writer.

I’ve been following Notre Dame sports for as long as I can remember. My dad graduated from Notre Dame in 1988, and my whole family follows the Fighting Irish, which makes this a particularly exciting move for me.

I’m originally from Richmond, Va., and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018. I worked in Washington, D.C., for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for two years before getting my master’s degree, and I finished up journalism school at Northwestern University in September.

For the last few months I’ve been working for the On3 National News Desk, which has been a blast. I currently live in Chicago, but I plan to join Blue & Gold’s Patrick Engel and Tyler Horka in South Bend in the coming months.

Outside of Irish sports, I’m a New York Giants and 2021 World Champion Atlanta Braves fan (took long enough). Yes, I am aware my fandoms make little to no sense, but I promise I have explanations. I also swam at Penn, so if you want to discuss swimming, I’m your person.

PROMOTION: Sign up for $1 for first year and receive a free Blue & Gold Founders Club hat

Lastly, I am a foodie, and the hardest part of moving away from Chicago will be leaving all of the fabulous restaurants. Please give me South Bend restaurant recommendations. I know there aren’t many. But please.

I joined On3 because I love what Shannon Terry is building. In my short time with the company, I am amazed at the level of dedication and attention to detail at On3. Plus, the On3 database is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

I’ve loved following Blue & Gold writers Mike Singer, Patrick and Tyler, and it will be an honor to work with such established writers and voices in the Notre Dame community.

Additionally, I’m excited to bring a new perspective to the Notre Dame fan site. Can’t wait to get the ball rolling with the Blue & Gold crew and cannot thank them enough for how welcoming they have been.

Go Irish!
