Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today we’re catching up with Georgia standout defensive lineman AJ Hoffler.

COLUMBUS — In the world of college football recruiting, even if a player thinks he knows where he wants to go, sometimes just taking a step back to slow down is necessary.

That’s a fair summation of the current state of affairs for AJ Hoffler, a four-star defensive end from the Woodward Academy (Atlanta). He’s been to Ohio State twice and knows the Buckeyes are the team to beat in his recruitment. Larry Johnson and Ohio State have been clear with him about their plans and he’s has no questions to answer about the Buckeyes anymore.

But there’s no hurry for him to make a college choice.

“I think I’m going to wait a little bit longer until I do a workout with Coach Johnson to get a feel for him as a coach,” AJ Hoffler said in January. “Which is what he advised but my mom and dad are both fine with my decision whether it be right now or later. I’m done with visits right now until the spring.”

Spring has arrived but not much else has changed for Hoffler. He’s working on a visit to Ohio State for late March and is eager to keep growing his relationship with the Buckeyes.

What kind of role does his see for himself on the Ohio State defense? Does he see himself as an ambassador to Ohio State for young teammates visiting this month? Why does AJ Hoffler feel so strongly about the Buckeyes?

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound EDGE prospect with nearly 50 scholarship offers talks about his recruitment n the latest edition of Birminology from Lettermen Row.
