COLUMBUS — Ohio State is staying at the top of the Associated Press Top 25 following a 3-0 start and an idle week. Yes, the Buckeyes are still No. 1 in the latest AP Poll.

Only three ranked opponents lost during a fairly benign week of college football for the top 25, so it wasn’t expected that many changes were going to happen. Illinois, Utah and Auburn all lost, but all three lost to fellow ranked teams. Indiana, Texas Tech and Oklahoma all jumped in the rankings after big wins — all three coming at home — over those other ranked teams.

Ohio State received 57 first-place votes. Other first-place votes went to Penn State, LSU and Oregon. The top five is rounded out by Penn State, LSU, Miami and Georgia. Oregon remained No. 6 after its latest win, this one coming in a rivalry game over Oregon State.

The Buckeyes now open Big Ten play with a trip to the West Coast to face Washington, which isn’t ranked after a 3-0 start but is receiving votes to be included in the top 25 from some voters.

The Huskies have the attention of Ohio State — and Washington quarterback Demond Williams certainly has the Buckeyes talking.

“He’s lightning in a bottle,” Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said on his radio show Thursday. “He’s like Kyler Murray. He’s a very good player. He’s got a strong arm, he’s quick, he’s fast and a really good football player. We’re going to have to have a really good plan for him.”

With an idle week to prepare, Ohio State should have a good plan to slow down this high-powered Washington offense. The Buckeyes enter the Big Ten opener as the No. 1 team in the country, taking their program on the road for the first time this year.
