Avery Henry commits to Ohio State
COLUMBUS — Ohio State has landed a commitment from offensive lineman Avery Henry.
A former Iowa State verbal, Henry reopened his recruitment following a game-day visit with the Buckeyes in late September. It didn’t take long for him to jump on the opportunity with Ohio State. The Buckeyes offered on Oct. 18.
A 6-foot-7, 305-pound offensive tackle, Henry told Lettermen Row he’d been in contact with the coaching staff in Columbus for a while after he visited for the Akron game.
“I’ve been in and out of contact with Ohio State for about two years,” Henry said in late September. “The last couple weeks have been phone calls, texts and emails on a regular [basis.]
“They loved how I was willing to lose 65 pounds just to take advantage of the opportunity I was given. They specifically told me they want guys that are willing to do what I did. It felt good to get in invitation to watch the game as a recruit because as far as I can remember I’ve always thought Ohio State has been one of the top dogs.”
As he said, Henry was up to almost 400 pounds when he first popped onto the college football prospect radar. He caught the attention of Studrawa with his senior film and commitment to changing his body.
“That’s one of the reasons they started contact again,” Henry said. “They’ve watched every one of my games and were impressed with what they saw.”

That interest was solidified when the Ohio State assistant watched Avery Henry play during the Buckeyes off-week. The offer came soon after.
Despite his size, he’s still flying somewhat under-the-radar nationally. Henry has only three other offers only from Power 5 programs: Iowa State, West Virginia and Syracuse.
With the addition of Avery Henry, Ohio State has three offensive linemen committed in the Class of 2022. Henry joins fellow in-state lineman Tegra Tshabola and Colorado standout George Fitzpatrick as future Buckeyes offensive linemen.
Henry is the second Buckeyes commit in two days. Ohio State is still looking for one more lineman in this cycle.
