Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players themselves. Birminology shows who the young men being recruited by Ohio State truly are — by talking to them. This week’s guest is Barrett Carter, a Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2021 and a major priority for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State isn’t going to recruit many linebackers in the Class of 2021 and that’s why getting to know North Gwinett (Suwanee, Ga.) standout Barrett Carter is important for Buckeyes fans, especially after an important visit to Columbus in November.

The 4-star prospect — who holds almost 45 scholarship offers to this point — is the nation’s No. 100 overall prospect according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings but one of an elite group of linebacker prospects still being courted by Ohio State in the 2021 cycle. With Ironton (Ohio) 4-star Reid Carrico already committed, the Buckeyes pursuit of Carter is worth watching closely because that duo could comprise the entire linebacker haul for Al Washington and Ohio State next year.

But it won’t be easy for the Buckeyes to land Barrett Carter. There’s a bevy of nationally-ranked programs firmly in the mix for his eventual commitment and a long way to go before he’s required to make any decision on his future.

What does Barrett Carter like about Ohio State? Does he talk to his teammate, Jordan Hancock, about playing together at the next level? How does being from Chicago impact his impression of the Big Ten and the Buckeyes? How does he want to be utilized on the defense when he makes it to college?
