Betting B1G: Big Ten slate highlights Week Seven college football picks
Austin and I agreed on five of our six college football picks last week. I told him that might be bad news for him.
Hey, at least I got something right!
I went 1-5 against the spread last week and believe that might be the third consecutive week with that record. I’m not really sure how I haven’t been fired yet if I’m being honest.
But hey, so long as they let me continue picking games I’m going to do just that. We’ve got a winning week ahead. I can feel it.
All lines for college football picks via Bovada as of Thursday evening.
No. 2 Georgia at No. 13 LSU
When: 3:30 Saturday
Where: Tiger Stadium (Baton Rouge, La.)
Line: Georgia -8
The Pick: We probably should have seen LSU’s loss coming. The Tigers are good but not that good, and the schedule finally caught up to LSU. The good news for the Tigers? They get to play No. 2 Georgia this week!
Eight points is an awful lot for the No. 13 team in the country to get at home but Georgia is yet to play in a game decided by fewer than 14 points. It’s a tough call for me.
I think the Dawgs will win this game but I’ll take LSU to cover. Barely.
No. 7 Washington at No. 17 Oregon
When: 3:30 p.m. Saturday
Where: Autzen Stadium (Eugene, Ore.)
Line: Washington -3
The Pick: After the stunt Oregon pulled a few weeks ago against Stanford, I vowed not to pick the Ducks again for the rest of the year. I picked against them the following week out of spite even though it was obviously a bad choice — and I admitted as much.
Because I am a coward, I’m going back on my hatred for the Ducks. I like Oregon plus the points at home.
Iowa at Indiana
When: noon Saturday
Where: Memorial Stadium (Bloomington, Ind.)
Line: Iowa -5.5
The Pick: Do I have to pick this game?
I mean, seriously, I have no idea what is going to happen in a noon #banger between the Hawkeyes and Hoosiers. Nobody does. This is literally an impossible task.
I guess I’ll take the road favorite and roll with the Hawkeyes but honestly I would stay as far away from this game as possible.
Michigan State at No. 8 Penn State
When: 3:30 Saturday
Where: Beaver Stadium (State College, Pa.)
Line: Penn State -14
The Pick: I can’t say I envisioned this spread being two touchdowns just a few weeks ago. What a horrendous start to the season for Michigan State.

The Spartans can stop the run which is why I think this game may be a little closer than a lot of folks think, but I still believe Penn State has too much talent and speed. I like the Nittany Lions to cover here.
No. 15 Wisconsin at No. 12 Michigan
When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
Where: Michigan Stadium (Ann Arbor, Mich.)
Line: Michigan -8
The Pick: I actually like Michigan pretty comfortably here. I’m not sure how Wisconsin scores many points against that vaunted Wolverines defense, and the Badgers’ defense — which is typically among the nation’s best — is ranked just 40th in the country.
Michigan’s offense, while rather bland and not all that explosive, is much better at home, and this feels like a game the Wolverines can win 24-10 or somewhere along those lines. Jim Harbaugh has been difficult to trust in these big games, but it feels like Michigan might be due for a win in one of them.
Minnesota at No. 3 Ohio State
When: noon Saturday
Where: Ohio Stadium (Columbus, Ohio)
Line: Ohio State -30
The Pick:  I wonder if Ohio State looks rejuvenated this week. The Buckeyes look a bit tired and seem to be limping toward their open week — which is still two weeks away.
Minnesota is pretty bad but 30 points is a lot to give up in a conference game. Ohio State’s somewhat leaky defense makes these large spreads difficult. The Buckeyes give up one or two big plays per game and that’s often the difference in whether or not they cover a big spread.
I think this week might be the one where Ohio State gets back on track and wins big, though. I’ll lay the points and take the home team. Buckeyes win, 48-14.
