COLUMBUS — Rice transfer offensive lineman Ethan Onianwa has committed to Ohio State. The Buckeyes add another coveted transfer as they attempt to restock their offensive line this offseason.

The 6-foot-6 and 345-pound Onianwa started nine games for Rice in the 2024 season. All nine starts came at left tackle after flipping over from the right side in the offseason. He made 25 starts at right tackle across the previous two seasons for the Eagles.

Onianwa had above average grades this season, according to Pro Football Focus. His overall offensive grade was 74.3. He had a 67.9 run block grade and 78.7 pass block grade. Additionally, Onianwa’s season-high pass block grade of 86.5 came against Houston, the lone Power Four opponent that Rice played in 2024.

Ohio State will lose both starting offensive tackles to the NFL Draft after the season. Left tackle Josh Simmons has already declared for the draft as recovers from a season-ending injury that he suffered in the Buckeyes loss to Oregon. Right tackle Josh Fryar has exhausted his eligibility and he will likely get a shot to play in the NFL as well.

The Buckeyes will also lose their starting center and Rimington Award Winner Seth McLaughlin to the NFL Draft after the season. He suffered a season-ending injury in practice prior to the Indiana game.

Ohio State has already added Minnesota transfer offensive lineman Phillip Daniels this offseason. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Daniels appeared in 11 games for Minnesota during the 2024 season. He made four starts at right tackle and only allowed one sack on 158 pass block snaps.
