COLUMBUS — Ohio State cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt has entered the transfer portal one day after helping the Buckeyes win a National Championship. Simpson-Hunt will have three seasons of eligibility wherever he ends up signing.

The 5-foot-11 and 190-pound Simpson-Hunt took a redshirt season as a true freshman in 2023 season. He then became a fixture in the Buckeyes special teams units this season. Simpson-Hunt appeared in nine games on multiple special teams units for Ohio State. He also logged a six defensive snaps against Western Michigan.

Simpson-Hunt, a Waxahachie (Texas) standout, was the No. 58 overall prospect and No. 7 cornerback in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the No. 36 overall prospect and No. 2 cornerback in the 2023 On300.

Ohio State signed two cornerbacks in the 2023 class. Simpson-Hunt and On3 five-star Jermaine Matthews both signed with Tim Walton in his first full recruiting cycle.

While Simpson-Hunt has struggled to see the field, Matthews has been an impact player for Ohio State the past two seasons. He started one game in 2023 and rotate in more as the season went long. In 2024, Matthews has been the third cornerback for the Buckeyes and is viewed by the coaching staff as another starter.

Ohio State will now need its young cornerbacks to step up with Simpson-Hunt entering the Transfer Portal. The Buckeyes signed top-100 prospects Aaron Scott Jr. and Bryce West in the 2024 class. Tim Walton then followed it up by signing Five-Star Plus+ Devin Sanchez, the No. 1 cornerback in the On3 Industry Rankings, and three-star Jordyn Woods in 2025.
