COLUMBUS — Another Ohio State star is returning to the program for one final season: Emeka Egbuka has announced his decision to play one more year for the Buckeyes.

The star wide receiver will come back to Columbus for his final year with plenty still left to prove.

After topping 1,000 receiving yards as a sophomore in 2022, Egbuka missed a month of the 2023 regular season with an ankle injury. Still, he finished his junior year with 41 catches for 515 yards and four receiving touchdowns.

He looked better in late November after he returned from the injury as the Buckeyes were in the middle of the stretch run.

“Huge, huge. I saw it too,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said after the game about Egbuka’s burst in the midst of his five-catch, 83-yard performance. “I saw it a little bit this week, and then it was great to see him in the game playing like that. You can see him. We tried to get him involved with a couple runs, a couple things on the perimeter just to see that.

“And he’s getting as close to 100 [percent] as he could possibly be.”

He’ll be at 100 percent for spring practice, training camp and the buildup to the regular season. And he’ll give the new starting quarterback — whether that’s Kansas State transfer Will Howard, third-year Buckeyes quarterback Devin Brown or second-year signal caller Lincoln Kienholz — a top-tier weapon to target at critical moments.

Next year will also give Egbuka a chance to prove he belongs near the top of the first round in the 2025 NFL Draft. He is still considered a first-round pick by some right now. But he can cement that status with another year, another shot at a Big Ten and national championship.

Egbuka is returning for all of that.

He’ll be a major piece of the title push at Ohio State next fall. He’s returning to be a part of it.
