COLUMBUS – Head coach Jake Diebler and his coaching staff have been working non-stop to retool the Ohio State roster through the Transfer Portal. The Buckeyes have even hosted a few transfers on visits this week.

Former North Carolina forward Jalen Washington visited Ohio State on Tuesday, sources confirm to Lettermen Row. The news was first reported by The Columbus Dispatch.

Washington is coming off a junior campaign where he averaged career highs in points, rebounds and blocks. He averaged 5.7 points and 4.2 boards per contest while playing just under 16 minutes per game. Washington appeared in 36 games making 16 of which he started.

The Gary (Ind.) West Side product signed with the Tar Heels as a member of the Class of 2022. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 70 overall recruit and No. 14 PF, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, Mississippi State and Missouri are two teams poised to pursue Washington. He will likely to have one year of eligibility left at his next destination.

Ohio State hosted West Virginia guard Jonathan Powell for a visit on Monday. Powell, a Centerville (Ohio) native, averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Mountaineers. He started in 23 games, while appearing in 32 total on the year.

On3’s Joe Tipton has since reported that Powell had Zoom scheduled with North Carolina on Tuesday and a Zoom with Ole Miss on Wednesday.

Ohio State already has one Transfer Portal commitment from Indiana guard Gabe Cupps. The 6-foot-2 Cupps is originally from Dayton, Ohio and played at Centerville (OH). He started 22 games as a freshman averaging 2.6 points and 1.2 assists per game. He only played in four games this season after undergoing surgery to repair an ongoing meniscus injury.
