Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today’s guest is Gabe Powers, a four-linebacker from Ohio who officially became a Buckeye on Friday.
MARYSVILLE – Gabe Powers was the final signee of Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class during the early period.
The Marysville (Ohio) linebacker is the fourth-highest ranked player in the Buckeyes’ cycle. He is one of 18 signees in a class that currently ranks No. 4 in the country in the On3 Consensus rankings – and No. 3 in average player rating.
Powers signed his Letter of Intent to officially become a Buckeye on Friday night. He put pen to paper during a ceremony in Marysville surrounded by his parents, his two brothers and hundreds from the community who showed up in droves in support of the player who has become the first Monarch in the last 20 years set to play football at Ohio State on scholarship.
After he signed on Friday, Powers joined Lettermen Row’s Zack Carpenter for a one-on-one interview to offer some unique perspective on what he expects as he enters the Ohio State program.

That includes where he will play as a Buckeye. There have long been questions about which position Powers will line up when he is at Ohio State, but there might be a perfect role for him to fill under new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
Powers gives his thoughts on that position, his hope to play for Buckeyes linebackers coach Al Washington and much more in this episode of Talking Stuff: The Ohio State Recruiting Podcast presented by Byers Auto – and that includes a message from Powers for those who don’t think he’s fast enough to play linebacker.
