BuckIQ: Five-star WR Garrett Wilson could be game-changer at Ohio State
COLUMBUS — Ohio State knew the moment was coming when it would have to replace all the wide receivers who have raised the bar for the position in the program. Landing a five-star talent like Garrett Wilson to take the torch is a pretty solid way to start the transition.
It can be tricky to expect too much of a freshman so quickly after arriving on campus. But Wilson might be the exception based on his dynamic athleticism, his experience in the ultra-competitive environment of Texas high-school football and the maturity he’s shown throughout his recruiting process.
The Buckeyes need guys to step up and replace all the production the veteran trio of Johnnie Dixon, Parris Campbell and Terry McLaurin are taking with them to the NFL. And Wilson is going to get every opportunity to provide it once he enrolls with Ohio State and gets to work.
“As talented a young man as I’ve been around in terms of ball skills, speed, changing direction,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “He could be a Division I basketball player if he wanted to be.

“But he’s an even a better young man. The way he handles himself is with class, and that’s because he comes from such a great family.”
Athleticism runs in the family as well, and Wilson also brings some local knowledge despite those formative years in Texas having spent time in nearby Dublin soaking up Ohio State football and everything that comes along with it.
There might not have been a more important pickup for the Buckeyes when the early signing period opened on Wednesday. And former Ohio State wideout Evan Spencer was back in the film room at Lettermen Row breaking down the highlight reel of the Lake Travis star to see how his game will translate at the next level. There was obviously plenty for Spencer to like about Garrett Wilson in this latest episode of BuckIQ.
