Garrett Wilson isn’t wavering on his verbal pledge in the wake of Urban Meyer being placed on administrative leave. And he’s standing solidly behind Ohio State while the investigative process continues to unfold.

Wilson, Ohio State’s top-ranked 2019 commitment and a 5-star prospect from Lake Travis (Austin, Texas) told Andrew Schnitker of KXAN he thinks both Meyer and the program will bounce back stronger than ever when the matter is resolved.

“Welcome to life,” Wilson said. “Some things go wrong, not everything is going to go right. At the end of the day, I feel those kids are going to come back stronger after this, Coach Meyer is going to come back stronger and they’re going to win a [national championship] this year.”

Wilson’s optimistic viewpoint doesn’t come without some caution, though. He’s told Lettermen Row previously that he’d look at other schools if Meyer were let go.

“If they were to fire Coach Meyer,” Wilson said. “Which I hope they won’t, unless [offensive coordinator and acting head coach Ryan] Day got the job, I’d probably look at some more schools.”

Since then, there’s been no visible signs of Wilson changing his mind, despite a rush of contact from other schools — primarily the Texas Longhorns. That attention took on new life over the weekend, when it was reported that Texas coach Tom Herman may have been involved in the reporting of allegations of domestic violence against former Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith, which Herman publicly denied.

Wilson was understandably bothered by the rumors, voicing his disgust at the thought on Twitter almost as soon as it was reported. In a now deleted tweet, Wilson said he was “sick” over the story.

Ohio State’s No.8-ranked recruiting class wouldn’t be in great shape without Garrett Wilson, the nation’s No. 12 overall prospect in the Class of 2019. For now, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound believes things are where they need to be.

“I’m trying to focus on my teammates right now, I owe that to them, and they expect that out of me. I’m 100-percent with my teammates right now,” Wilson said. “I’ll worry about that whenever they get it all figured out. As of right now, I’m a Buckeye, you know?”

Ohio State has set a deadline to end its investigation by the end of the week.
