Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today’s guest is 2023 five-star linebacker Jaiden Ausberry.

COLUMBUS — Jaiden Ausberry grew up loving LSU football.

When the Tigers offered him in January, many believed it’d just be a matter of time before he ended up picked LSU. Ohio State, almost as a matter of principle, hasn’t recruited players from Louisiana because the Tigers have such a stranglehold on kids from that area.

However, when Lettermen Row first saw Ausberry for the first time in March we mentioned that he was considering leaving Louisiana for college.

Even though Ausberry is an LSU legacy, the buzz in New Orleans was that he and his brother Austin — a 4-star 2022 defensive back — are looking to leave the area for college.

Things have changed in The Boot. Ed Orgeron is leaving LSU and the program is struggling. That’s helped other programs elevate in the mind of the University Lab (Baton Rouge, La.) five-star linebacker prospect.

One of them is Ohio State led by Al Washington. Washington impressed Jaiden Ausberry during a one-day recruiting camp stop this past June.

“Coach Washington left a really good impression on me — I love his coaching style,” Ausberry said. “He is so energetic and knows how to relate to us as young players. He helped me with my hand placement a lot and on my angles for tackling.”

Following that visit, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker immediately began planning a return to Columbus. That happened on Halloween weekend when he watched Ohio State host Penn State.

What made that visit important for Jaiden Ausberry? How have the Buckeyes made themselves a favorite in his recruitment? What kind of impact does the commitment of Sonny Styles have for Ausberry?

The five-star athlete from Louisiana joins Birminology on Lettermen Row to talk about those things and more.
