Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride. It’s full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter. We’re talking with the young players and sometimes, the Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today’s guest is Luke Montgomery, the No. 2-ranked prospect in Ohio’s 2023 class.

COLUMBUS – A year ago, Luke Montgomery wasn’t sure where his best football future was.

He was a young player that looked like a defensive lineman, but was playing tight end at Findlay (Ohio) High School as well. The belief among many talent evaluators was different, though.

Montgomery, then a 6-foot-5, 240-pound athlete who was more of a basketball player than a football player. His future was going to be on the gridiron though and the footwork and athleticism that made him a pretty darn good hoops player provided an intriguing canvas for offensive line development.

And that’s the position he’s been evaluated in since. That’s the position where most of his major college offers, including one from Ohio State, are tied to.

“I’m more of a defensive tackle this [past] year,” Montgomery said last September. “But there is no doubt I will be a monster on the offensive line in the next few years.”

That’s what the Buckeyes are betting on. They’re hoping that the Ohio prospect feels good about his future on the offensive line.

But where Montgomery feels most comfortable and where his most profitable future is aren’t currently the same.

That’s what made this past summer so important for the No. 2-ranked player in Ohio. He took every opportunity to see the schools on the top of his list while also turning his focus to learning the offensive line. One of those stops was Ohio State, where he camped with Greg Studrawa and the Buckeyes in late June. it was one of three trips Montgomery made to Columbus over the summer.

A college decision isn’t likely to come anytime before the end of this upcoming season. Luke Montgomery has a number of visits he’ll make — again — and that’s going to help him sort out exactly where he wants to be.

When will he return to Ohio State? How did the chance to camp with the Buckeyes help Luke Montgomery? What college campus does he like the best?

Find out the answers to those things and a lot more as Luke Montgomery joins Birminology on Lettermen Row to talk about his recruitment ahead of his big junior season.
