Marvin Harrison Jr. wins Chicago Tribune Silver Football
COLUMBUS — The awards just keep piling up for Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
It wasn’t enough that he was a Heisman Trophy finalist and finished fourth in the voting for that prestigious award. Or that he was named a unanimous All-American for the second straight year, only the fifth Buckeyes player to ever do that. Or that he took home the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the college football season’s most outstanding wide receiver.
But he’s officially capping off award season with a major Big Ten honor: Marvin Harrison Jr. has been named the 2023 Chicago Tribune Silver Football winner, given annually to the best football player in the Big Ten for each season.
Harrison Jr. is the eighth Ohio State player since 2000 to win the award and first since 2020, when quarterback Justin Fields won the award. He is the 23rd Ohio State player to ever win it, the first coming in 1930, when Wes Fesler won it as a tight end.
Harrison Jr. is the first wide receiver to win the award since 2004, when Michigan pass-catcher Braylon Edwards won it. Only five wide receivers have ever won it.

Michigan had two straight winners before Harrison snapped the Wolverines two-year streak and returned the Silver Football to Ohio State.
Marvin Harrison Jr. finished the 2023 regular season with 1,211 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown. That production came with a spotlight on him as the focal point of the Ohio State offense, leading to plenty of double-coverage efforts from opposing defenses. Of course, it didn’t matter. Harrison still finished with eight 100-yard receiving games this season, including an incredible 11-catch, 162-yard, one-touchdown game in the top-10 win over Penn State in October.
For all of that this season, Marvin Harrison Jr. is the Chicago Tribune Silver Football Award winner. He’s the best football player in the Big Ten.
