COLUMBUS — Jake Diebler not only has to put together a roster this offseason but he now has to hire a new assistant. Ohio State assistant Talor Battle is leaving the Buckeyes to become an assistant at his alma mater Penn State.

Before Battle got into coaching, he starred in the conference as a Penn State point guard who finished his career as the Nittany Lions’ all-time leading scorer (2,213 career points).

Battle played professionally oversees for seven years before starting his coaching career at his alma mater. After just one season back at Penn State, he made the move to Northwestern. Working under longtime Wildcats head coach Chris Collins from 2021-24, Battle assisted his younger brother Boo Buie and Chase Audige in forming one of the nation’s more intimidating guard duos.

Battle also helped Ohio State point guard Bruce Thornton develop into an All-Big Ten Second-Team performer this past season.

The Buckeyes will now look for another assistant that can work with Thornton, freshman standout John Mobley Jr. and Indiana transfer Gabe Cupps who committed to Ohio State last week.
