The expectations in the Zone 6 meeting room are always high at Ohio State, believe that.

But from outside of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, the anticipation, buzz and pressure might be at levels that the Buckeyes haven’t seen in a while. Sure, that unit that helped lead the program to a national title in 2014 was loaded with talent, but it didn’t necessarily come into the season with the kind of hype accompanying the 2018 version.

There is ample veteran experience with Terry McLaurin, Parris Campbell and Johnnie Dixon setting the tone. K.J. Hill is a proven weapon, and Binjimen Victor has made it clear how much upside he brings to the position. Even a former walk-on like C.J. Saunders is generating some debate about how he could help the Buckeyes as a target in the slot.

And then there is Austin Mack, who is trying to follow in the footsteps of Michael Thomas and even drawing some comparisons to the NFL superstar with the way he’s been practicing and playing. That’s big praise, but it might be warranted — and today we’ll dive into why that is along with what helped set “Can’t Guard Mike” apart during his time at Ohio State.
