Buckeyes signee Brice Sensabaugh named Florida Mr. Basketball

Brice Sensabaugh is finishing high school and gearing up to arrive at Ohio State.

But he’s not done collecting impressive awards before he comes to Columbus. The talented Buckeyes signee was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Florida on Monday, an incredible honor for the future Buckeyes forward. Sensabaugh averaged 25.1 points and 7.2 rebounds during his senior season at Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, and he brings a lot to the Ohio State roster that could use depth at forward next season.

Sensabaugh is the second Ohio State signee to win a major state award before heading to join the Buckeyes. Bruce Thornton was named Gatorade Player of the Year in his home state of Georgia last month.

The Buckeyes have a loaded recruiting class coming in, and Brice Sensabaugh continues to prove he can have an instant impact for Ohio State.

Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters

With less than two weeks remaining until the spring game, the Buckeyes still have plenty to accomplish before the end of the 15 spring sessions. And Lettermen Live is back at Roosters to break down everything Ohio State football.

Former Buckeyes Bobby Carpenter and Justin Zwick were joined as always by Lettermen Row reporters Austin Ward and Spencer Holbrook for the winding discussion as the program hits a critical stretch of important spring practices. There will be plenty more coverage about Ohio State coming this week with two more practices on deck, and the crew made sure to dive in with insight from what they saw at a rare open practice on Saturday morning.

Who stood out during the open session on Saturday? How can the Buckeyes continue to get better on offense, even with the top unit in the country? Are under-the-radar guys beginning to pop up and surprise folks in the spring? The crew analyzes every angle at Roosters.

ICYMI: Pair of Buckeyes defensive backs enter transfer portal

Lejond Cavazos entered his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday, Lettermen Row confirmed, most likely ending his career with the Buckeyes. He will have multiple years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands, more than likely a place where he can find a bigger role than the backup duty he was projected for at Ohio State.

The former four-star recruit didn’t play a big part during the shortened freshman season, but he appeared in multiple games for the Buckeyes last season. He totaled seven tackles and had two pass deflections in those five games.

Through two seasons, Cavazos didn’t have a big impact on the field for the Buckeyes. That all seemed to be changing this spring under new defensive coaches Jim Knowles, Perry Eliano and Tim Walton. Cavazos was working at cornerback and a safety spot this spring, and he was being mentioned in the mix for some kind of role in the secondary.

Bryson Shaw also entered the transfer portal, Lettermen Row confirmed. Shaw is the second member of the Ohio State secondary to leave the program Monday after Lejond Cavazos did so earlier in the day.

A former three-star recruit, Shaw rose up the depth chart and became a starter last season for the Buckeyes following the injury to first-team safety Josh Proctor. Shaw started nearly every game last season, appearing in all 13. He had 59 total tackles, an interception in the rivalry loss to Michigan, three passes deflected and a fumble recovery.
