COLUMBUS — Seth Towns has battled through injuries throughout his entire college basketball career.

The Buckeyes senior forward has decided to step away from basketball, and he won’t play this season. After announcing his return to the Buckeyes basketball program in April, Towns has now announced in a post on Twitter his decision to be done playing basketball, citing setbacks this summer in his attempt to return after not playing last season, also due to injury.

“Buckeye Nation, it has been a great honor to represent you and the Ohio State University for two years. It comes with sadness and faith that I must announce I am stepping away from Ohio State and Team 124, and that I will not be playing this season,” Towns said in a statement on Twitter. “After a few setbacks this summer and some tough conversations with my coaches and medical personnel, it has become clear that my body is not in a position to endure a full Big Ten season. I share with many of you the frustration of not having been able to compete at the level I am capable of, or at least something close to it. Yet, it is the immense gratitude I feel for having the chance to play at all that has carried me through for so long. I have been remarkably blessed and would be living in vein to let anything overshadow that.

“… Whether I was playing or sidelined by injury, our success mattered to me all the same because I was bought in to you all and the culture we built together. And finally, to my family and friends I cannot thank you enough for all the love and support over the years. It has meant and continues to mean the world to me. As for my immediate future, I’ll be taking some time to figure out what my next chapter looks like. But, I am excited to find what is next for me and rest in my faith that I will be placed — as I always have been — exactly where I am intended to be.”

Towns, a Columbus native and former three-star recruit in the class of 2016, played at Harvard before transferring to Ohio State two seasons ago. He played in the 2020-21 season but missed all of last year.

Seth Towns put himself through plenty of rehab processes and attempts to return to basketball. Now he is stepping away from hoops.
