George Washington III decommits from Ohio State
COLUMBUS — The longest-committed player for Ohio State has just reopened his recruitment.
George Washington III decommited from the Buckeyes on Monday morning.
The 6-foot-2, 165-pound three-star combo guard out of Chaminade Julienne (Dayton, Ohio) made his announcement on Twitter.
“First, I would like to thank Coach Holtmann and the entire coaching staff for believing in me. I would also like to thank Buckeye Nation and the entire OSU family for welcoming me into the community, Washington said.
“However, at this time, after much thought, prayer and deep discussion with my family, I would like to announce that I’ll be decommitting from the Ohio State University and reopening my recruitment.”
Washington committed to coach Chris Holtmann and Ohio State on Nov. 3, and since then was steadfast in his pledge as his stock as a prospect grew. The combo guard was in Columbus this past weekend with his former classmates in Scotty Middleton, Devin Royal and Austin Parks.
Washington holds offers from Florida State, Louisville, Tennessee, Auburn, Purdue and Liberty.
Ohio State had a large visitor in town this weekend as well. Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, visited Ohio State on Saturday as part of the many recruits — mainly football — that was in Ohio Stadium for the Buckeyes game against Notre Dame.

James is also a combo guard and four-star prospect out of Sierra Canyon in California. He’s the No. 7 rated combo guard in the 2023 class according to On3.
Four-star shooting guard Taison Chatman was also in Columbus this weekend.
Washington’s decommitment moves the Buckeyes class back down to three but it currently remains in the 16th spot, per the On3 team rankings. Michigan State and Rutgers are the only two Big Ten schools that lie ahead of Ohio State in the team rankings.
His decommitment now gives Holtmann a chance to recruit at least one more player, and maybe a second, to round out the class.
