Buckeyes hold steady in second College Football Playoff rankings
COLUMBUS — The second set of College Football Playoff rankings are officially out. Ohio State doesn’t need to care about them, because the Buckeyes are in ‘Win and Get In’ mode until they lose another game — if they lose another game.
Ohio State checked in at No. 2 in the second CFP rankings, the same place it was in last week when the initial rankings came out. The Buckeyes collected a signature road win on Nov. 2 over Penn State, which the committee deemed is No. 6 in the country. Ohio State has one loss, that being to the committee’s top-ranked team in Oregon — a loss that came by one point on the road.
Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State and Indiana make up the top five of the rankings.
For Ohio State, it does not care about these rankings. The Buckeyes want to keep stacking championship performances and building toward a potential Big Ten title game berth — and trip to the College Football Playoff. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day keeps reiterating that.
“You’ve got to bring it every week, and that’s what championship football is all about,” Day said. “Every week for us is like the playoffs right now. We’re fighting for a chance to get the Indianapolis. it’s going to come down to our seniors and leaders, and obviously, how they echo that message. The players, the ones who have to play, they’re the ones who have to do it on the field.
“Give them credit for for being consistent up to this point. But you know, like I said before, nothing we’ve done up to this point matters anymore. It’s what we do moving forward and and I know that these guys are going to come in with a good week of practice.”
