COLUMBUS — Ohio State freshman quarterback Air Noland has been working hard to begin a years-long climb of the Buckeyes depth chart.

He reached a big milestone after practice on Wednesday as his climb continues early in his career. Noland lost his black stripe Wednesday night, a sign that he’s done enough to wow teammates and coaches — and a sign that he has officially joined the Buckeyes football program.

Air Noland was one of the top prospects in the 2024 recruiting class, checking in as the No. 59 overall recruit in the class. He was the No. 5 quarterback in the class.

Noland was the Buckeyes’ lone quarterback signee in the class until former Alabama signee Julian Sayin transferred in after spending just a few weeks with the Crimson Tide.

Sayin has been ahead of Noland on the pecking order since the beginning of spring, but Noland has never been too far down the depth chart to make up that ground and continue proving himself in the background.

Now with his black stripe removed, Noland can keep working toward a future role with the Buckeyes — and potentially a starting quarterback job.

ICYMI: Buckeyes kicker Austin Snyder loses black stripe

Ohio State ran into issues with its kickoffs this week when kickoff specialist and starting place kicker Jayden Fielding booted three straight kickoffs out of bounds, missing to the left.

In Fielding’s place after he was pulled, Austin Snyder stepped in and kicked two kickoffs into the end zone. He also went 2-of-2 on extra points following Ohio State touchdowns in the second half.

Snyder has now lost his black stripe Tuesday after practice, a mark that he’s officially a member of the Buckeyes program following his impressive debut.

Snyder started his college career at Findlay and followed now-Buckeyes special teams assistant Rob Keys to the Ohio State program.
