Tim May: Carnell Tate seizes day in his emotional Chicago homecoming
CHICAGO – Those greats days, the “Take me out to the ballgame” days, the ones that might be bat-giveaway days — the Chicago Cubs might jump on an idea next week season and make a Carnell Tate autographed football day, because the Ohio State sophomore receiver certainly had that kind of meritorious Wrigley field debut Saturday. In the city where he grew up, and in a stadium where he once visited but so far he’s never been to a Cubs game, he put on a show in the No. 2 Buckeyes’ 31-7 win over Northwestern. He caught two touchdown passes, one with a spectacular diving move in the second quarter, and he came within a yard of scoring another.
