Ohio State too talented, focused to struggle with Indiana

Upsets happen. Streaks come to an end. Traps occasionally pop up to snare Ohio State.
But there is very little chance of any history being made by Indiana on Saturday when the Buckeyes visit to open Big Ten play.
Yes, it’s true that weird things have a tendency of happening when these two neighbors get together for a conference matchup. Ohio State can struggle for a half or even three quarters, crazy bounces can pop into the hands of Hoosiers and there have even been a few cases since 1988 where it seemed like maybe the underdog would put a halt to all of the losing.

But there is a good reason the Buckeyes have had the upper hand for so long, and it’s the same one that will be on display at Memorial Stadium in Week Three. Ohio State has far too much talent for the Hoosiers, and the deeper it gets into a game, the more clear that edge becomes. Throw in the fact that this meeting is taking place in September before the possibility of any complacency could even think about creeping in, the motivation Ryan Day has to prove that he can maintain the standard of the program as Urban Meyer’s successor and the drive of Justin Fields to establish himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the country and it’s hard to see how the Buckeyes could slip up against Indiana.

The first rankings are in
College football is crazy and unpredictable, but Ohio State beating Indiana is about the surest bet there is in this sport. And while the margin of victory can occasionally get a little tighter than might be expected, the confidence the Buckeyes are playing with right now in all three phases shouldn’t allow that to happen this time.
History, talent, intangibles and even what figures to be a lot of support in a road stadium all point to Ohio State. Don’t count on any surprises with the Hoosiers on Saturday.
