Jeremiah Smith named semifinalist for Biletnikoff Award
COLUMBUS — Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has already shown he is among the best wide receivers in all of college football.
He’s being honored as such. Smith is one of 11 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the ‘season’s outstanding FBS receiver in college football’. Smith’s inclusion marks the second straight year the Buckeyes have had a semifinalist; Marvin Harrison Jr. won the award for the Buckeyes last year.
Smith is the leading receiver for a stacked Ohio State wide receiver room this season. The freshman former No. 1 overall prospect from the 2024 recruiting class has 49 catches for 865 receiving yards and nine touchdown grabs on the season. Those numbers are all freshman receiving records for the Buckeyes, and he has topped them all in just 10 games.
Smith is one of two true freshmen up for the award. Alabama’s Ryan Williams is also a semifinalist.
The full list of semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award:
+ Jack Bech, TCU
+ Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State
+ Ryan Williams, Alabama
+ Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green (tight end)
+ Xavier Restrepo, Miami
+ Nick Nash, San Jose State
+ Tre Harris, Ole Miss
+ Tai Felton, Maryland
+ Travis Hunter, Colorado
+ Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona
+ Ja’Corey Brooks, Louisville
Smith previously made the cut and is a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, given annually to the top player in college football, as announced last week. He is one of two pass-catchers up for that award.

“I’m not surprised in the slightest,” Buckeyes QB Will Howard recently said about Smith. “Man, he is, as a freshman … I think he’s the best receiver in the country, you know? I think we have the three best receivers [Smith, Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate] in the country on our team. Obviously, I’m biased, but, you know, I’m a lucky man to have guys like that doing what they’re doing.
“I knew Jeremiah was gonna be special from the first time I met him, and he’s just continued to get better and better.”
Now Jeremiah Smith is up for the award that’s given to the best wide receiver in the sport — and he’s only a true freshman.
