Jeremiah Smith update: Buckeyes submit questionable play to Big Ten, WR good to go
COLUMBUS — Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith came up limping after a 68-yard third-down catch and run on Saturday at Northwestern. Replay showed that Smith’s ankle was twisted once he was already down by Northwestern defensive back Robert Fitzgerald, which looked like it was a dirty play.
Buckeyes coach Ryan Day was asked about Smith’s ankle and the play that caused that injury during his weekly press conference ahead of the top-five matchup against Indiana on Saturday (Noon, FOX).
Day said the program did submit that play to the Big Ten office for further review but has not heard back yet. He also made sure to mention that Smith is fine following the ankle scare on that long catch and run, which set up a Buckeyes touchdown to extend their lead.
That indicates that Smith, the leading receiver for a stacked Ohio State wide receiver room this season, will be good to go for the upcoming showdown against Indiana and then the rivalry game against Michigan after.

The freshman former No. 1 overall prospect from the 2024 recruiting class has 49 catches for 865 receiving yards and nine touchdown grabs on the season. Those numbers are all freshman receiving records for the Buckeyes, and he has topped them all in just 10 games.
Jeremiah Smith named semifinalist for Biletnikoff Award
Smith has already shown he is among the best wide receivers in all of college football.
He’s being honored as such. Smith is one of 11 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the ‘season’s outstanding FBS receiver in college football’. Smith’s inclusion marks the second straight year the Buckeyes have had a semifinalist; Marvin Harrison Jr. won the award for the Buckeyes last year.
Smith is one of two true freshmen up for the award. Alabama’s Ryan Williams is also a semifinalist.
