Live updates: Ohio State defeats Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — One week before The Game, Ohio State must first take care of business against the Maryland Terrapins.

Maryland was shut out 30-0 against Penn State last weekend while the Buckeyes cruised to 56-14 victory at home versus Indiana. Ohio State has never lost to the Terrapins in seven tries and looks to extend that streak in College Park today.

FINAL: Ohio State defeats Maryland 43-30

It was not easy nor comfortable, but Ohio State walks away from its final regular season road game with a win. Ohio State out-gained the Terrapins 401 yards to 377. The Buckeyes defense scored in the final minute to seal the victory.

Freshman running back Dallan Hayden powered the Buckeyes through the second half with 146 yards and three touchdowns.

Ohio State-Maryland fourth quarter updates

43-30 Ohio State, 0:09 4Q — Touchdown, Ohio State. Zach Harrison gets to Taulia Tagovailoa and forces a fumble, which is returned by Steele Chambers for a touchdown.

36-30 Ohio State, 0:42 4Q — Noah Ruggles’ 45-yard field goal is good. Scoring drive: 11 plays, 61 yards in 5:12.

33-30 Ohio State, 5:54 4Q — Ohio State’s defense comes up big and forces Maryland to punt. Buckeyes will have the ball at their own 12-yard line.

33-30 Ohio State, 6:46 4Q — Ohio State fails to convert on fourth down and the Terrapins take over in their own territory.

33-30 Ohio State, 9:49 4Q — Touchdown, Maryland. Taulia Tagovailoa scrambles and throws a dart to the back of the end zone. It’s a 3-point game in College Park. Scoring drive: seven plays, 74 yards in 2:40.

33-23 Ohio State, 12:36 4Q — Touchdown, Ohio State. Dallan Hayden collects his third score of the day after bouncing off of defenders for 13 yards. Scoring drive: four plays, 53 yards in 1:09. The point after attempt was blocked and returned by Maryland for 2 points.

27-21 Ohio State, 13:53 4Q — Touchdown, Maryland. Taulia Tagovailoa scores on a quarterback keeper and brings Maryland within one score. The 2-point conversion is good. Scoring drive: five plays, 75 yards in 1:23.

Buckeyes-Terrapins third quarter updates

End of the third quarter. Ohio State leads 27-13.

27-13 Ohio State, 0:16 3Q — Touchdown, Ohio State. Dallan Hayden follows the fullback to the right side and punches the ball into the end zone. Scoring drive: 11 plays, 88 yards in 5:08.

20-13 Ohio State, 5:24 3Q — J.T. Tuimoloau and Tommy Eichenberg get to the quarterback on third down and force the Terrapins to punt. Buckeyes will take over on their own 11-yard line.

20-13 Ohio State, 7:52 3Q — Ohio State settles for another field goal, which is good from 47 yards by Noah Ruggles. Scoring drive: nine plays, 35 yards in 3:04.

17-13 Ohio State, 10:56 3Q — Penalties put Maryland behind the sticks and the Terrapins are forced to punt. Ohio State takes over on its own 36-yard line.

17-13 Ohio State, 12:13 3Q — Touchdown, Ohio State. Dallan Hayden follows up the blocked punt with an 8-yard touchdown run. Scoring drive: two plays, 14 yards in 0:24.

13-10 Maryland, 12:37 3Q — Lathan Ransom with the drive of his life: a touchdown-saving tackle, a tackle for loss and a blocked punt. Buckeyes come up big on special teams and will start in Maryland territory.

Ohio State-Maryland second quarter updates

End of the first half. Maryland leads Ohio State 13-10. The Terrapins are out-gaining Ohio State 211 yards to 159. Taulia Tagovailoa is 16-of-18 passing for 180 yards and one touchdown.

7-3 Ohio State, 7:50 1Q — Ohio State is forced to punt after penalties set the Buckeyes behind the chains. Maryland’s offense will get the ball at its own 43-yard line.

7-3 Ohio State, 8:47 1Q — Jack Sawyer’s sack on third down forces a Terrapins field goal, which is good from 31 yards. Scoring drive: nine plays, 61 yards in 4:35.

7-0 Ohio State, 13:28 1Q — Touchdown, Ohio State. TreVeyon Henderson gets involved in the passing game and takes a 31-yard throw from C.J. Stroud to the end zone. Scoring drive: six plays, 75 yards in 1:32.

Ohio State loses the toss and will start on offense.

Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson has been cleared to return for the Buckeyes for the first time since facing Penn State. Fellow tailback Miyan Williams is unavailable, however, along with receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
