Buckeyes national title team to be honored at next home basketball game
COLUMBUS — The national champion Ohio State Buckeyes are back in Columbus celebrating in the aftermath of beating Notre Dame on Monday night.
A week after winning the title, the Ohio State football team will be honored during a timeout of the men’s basketball game vs. Iowa on Monday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m.
That will come just one day after the program has its official national title celebration at the Horseshoe on Sunday at Noon.
Before the game, superstar safety Caleb Downs, defensive back Jermaine Mathews Jr. and linebacker Sonny Styles will be signing autographs on the concourse to continue celebrating the national championship win.
According to Ohio State athletics, the national championship trophies, as well as the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl trophies, will also be on display on the concourse before the game. Fans will have the opportunity to take photos alongside the trophies.

Ohio State, of course, opened the College Football Playoff as the No. 8 seed. The Buckeyes beat No. 9 seed Tennessee at home before beating previously-undefeated Big Ten champ and No. 1 overall seed Oregon in the Rose Bowl quarterfinal. They moved on to the Cotton Bowl semifinal, where they beat No. 5 seed Texas inside the Longhorns’ home state. Monday night, Ohio State beat No. 7 seed Notre Dame to capture the program’s ninth overall national championship, its first since 2014 to give Ryan Day his first as a head coach.
If you’ve been wrapped up in Ohio State football…
The Ohio State men’s basketball team has a record of 11-8 and is 3-5 in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes are coming off one of their best wins of the season — they beat No. 11 Purdue inside Mackey Arena in West Lafayette on Tuesday night. That was the first win for the Buckeyes at Mackey since 2018, and it snapped Purdue’s 26-game home winning streak.
The Buckeyes are currently No. 30 in NET ratings. They have notable wins over Purdue on the road, against Kentucky on a neutral court and against Texas on a neutral court.
Bad losses have held this Ohio State team back, but the win against Purdue gives them plenty of momentum heading into a critical stretch of the NCAA Tournament push.
