Report: Ohio State OL coach Justin Frye leaving for Arizona Cardinals
COLUMBUS — Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye will reportedly become the next offensive line coach of the Arizona Cardinals, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports.
Frye is fresh off an impressive national championship run in which his patched-together offensive line helped pave the way for a four-game offensive explosion through the College Football Playoff.
After being near the hot seat exiting the regular season due to an underwhelming offensive line room and some lackluster results on the recruiting trail, Frye’s unit put it all together for a huge performance against Tennessee, then replicated it in the Rose Bowl win over Oregon, the Cotton Bowl win over Texas and the national title win over Notre Dame.
The former Indiana offensive lineman was hired by Ohio State as the offensive line coach and associate head coach in 2022, replacing the outgoing Greg Studrawa. Frye was previously the offensive line coach for current Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly when Kelly was the head coach in Westwood.
The Buckeyes already lost defensive coordinator Jim Knowles to Penn State after his three-year run in Columbus. He left Ohio State for a three-year, $9.3 million contract with the Nittany Lions after leading the top-ranked Ohio State defense to the national championship. Knowles’ spot on the coaching staff hasn’t been filled yet.

And Frye’s reported leaving for the NFL ranks with the Cardinals comes as rumors swirl about Kelly’s place in offensive coordinator searches around the NFL.
That’s life after winning a national championship, as Ryan Day is learning in the first week after his first title. Winning takes good coaches, and other programs/organizations want to hire good coaches.
Frye is among them. He reportedly is taking the offensive line coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals, adding to potential staff turnover for Day and Ohio State after they celebrated a championship last Monday.
