COLUMBUS — Ryan Day admitted Tuesday to watching a lot of football during Ohio State’s first Saturday off this season, so two examples of having a backup quarterback ready to play did jump out at him as the afternoon day ensued. One was Wisconsin losing its quarterback Tyler Van Dyke for the rest of the season after he suffered a knee injury in the first half of its game with Alabama. His backup Bradyn Locke went in and the Badgers’ offense languished. The other was Texas losing Quinn Ewers due to an abdominal strain in the first half against Texas-San Antonio. Backup Arch Manning entered and the Longhorns barely skipped a beat.
