Ohio State Recruiting Question of the Day

There’s no way to sugarcoat it: This weekend in Columbus is pretty big for Ohio State efforts to hold on to Doug Nester and ultimately sign him in the 2019 recruiting class.

Nester, who committed to Ohio State in August of 2017, will be one of a handful of Buckeyes commits and signees on campus this weekend. As per recent NCAA rule changes — and thanks to a Big Ten approval — Nester will take a second official visit to the school after taking his first the weekend following Urban Meyer’s retirement. If Columbus weather allows it, this weekend Ohio State is hoping to have a majority of its 2019 class on campus to meet him.

Getting the whole gang together is a major piece of the weekend’s plans for Ohio State as it tries to bring all of the new coaches and new signees together for the first time.

The Buckeyes are, of course, hoping to show the 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman that the program he committed to isn’t changing all that much and that there’s no reason for him to continue looking around. Offensive line coach Greg Studrawa is sticking around, Harry Miller and Cade Stover — Nester’s closest friends in the class — will come to visit Ohio State again this weekend as well. So, this weekend is really going to be an effort to calm any remaining concerns Nester has.

This weekend will be designed to serve as a reminder that Columbus is the right fit, it’s close to home and the Buckeyes have never wavered in their commitment to him or his family. Yes, it’s huge for Ohio State, Ryan Day and for Doug Nester.

Ohio State is not going to push Nester to cancel his planned official visits to Penn State or Virginia Tech. But the Buckeyes absolutely hope he comes to that conclusion on his own.
